Create A Schedule
For a lot of people the transition from employee to self employed can be extremely difficult in terms of staying focused on work. I know it was for me when I started to work with Global Resorts Network.
When you are a employee you have someone watching over you making sure that you do your work, directing you to get done the tasks that need to get done for the day and for most people you are getting paid for hours worked not productions done.
When you starting for working for your self it’s the complete opposite. If you are not properly prepared it can be a shock to your system. Its almost like a stream suddenly switching the direction of its flow and flowing up hill. There is no one telling you what to do anymore, there are ton of distractions all around you. Such as the nice warm coy bed calling your name, the tv, friends calling that want you to go out and spend time with them. The biggest difference is that you are no longer getting paid for your time you are getting paid for your production. Instead of spacing out and hanging out at the water cooler and still getting paid like you did at your job you will be heavily penalized for this wasted time when working for your self.
It doesn’t matter if you are working full time or part time its extremely important that you create a strict schedule for your self for every day. I personally create mine on Sundays for the entire week. It is extremely important to make a commitment to stick to your schedule with no exceptions.
You want to separate your day into different sections. Work time this is where you stick to the money generating activities like talking to prospects on the phone, making follow up calls, closing deals, hosting live business presentations stuff that is putting money in your pocket right now. This is where the biggest part of your day should be spent. Preparation time. This is where you tweak your campaigns, check your emails, write articles or new emails to send out. Personal development this is where you spend part of your day reading or listening to a book on tape on a subject that is helping you to grow.
Play time this is where you take some time for you self to relax and do what every you need to do to give you brain a break, play with the kids, take the bike out for a ride play a board game or what ever you do for fun. I personally like to color code my schedule. However I do write specially what I will be doing from certain time slots.
During work hours remove all distractions and clutter. Start your day off by cleaning your desk and work space. Turn off your cell phone, your instant messenger and email. If you have kids let them know that this is work time and only to distract you for a emergency. Write down a list of stuff that has to get done for the day and start doing it right away. Remember you are getting paid solely on your production now you will not get paid on any wasted time. The more focused you are during work times will leave more time for play and more money to play with.
If you want to be truly successful working for you self it is important for you to learn self discipline and how to prioritize your time. If you are not getting the results you are looking to get ask your self. Am I creating a strict schedule for at least 5 days a week?
Am I truly sticking to that schedule? Is my scheduled focused towards money generating activities? Before you start placing blame look at your self. Are you truly doing everything that you get to make the best of your time. I guarantee that if you truly spend your time wisely you will get results.
